Mario 500-piece puzzle:a good gift idea for a child?

Our just 6 year old son is a huge Mario fan.

Mario, did you say Mario?

Yes, you know, Mario, the mustachioed plumber in the red flocked cap with an “M”. This Nintendo character is intergenerational, and hasn't changed an inch since our (already distant, sic!) childhood. And I have the impression that the famous character is coming back strongly into fashion. Unless it's a perception bias. When your child talks to you about something every day, at some point you no longer have too much perspective to perceive reality. You are therefore beginning to believe that Mario is really THE fashionable character, that everyone knows, and that all children of the same age (and older ones) love him too.

Another video game? Enough screens!

A good way to limit screens (because Mario is above all a video game character!) is to fall back on products derived from the Japanese brand. And so, for his 6th birthday, our son received a Mario puzzle. But be careful, not a little puzzle! Even if it means playing the grown-ups with console games, you might as well also put a little difficulty on more real games like puzzles.

Super Mario puzzle with all the characters

Here is the challenge to achieve:

Do you have children? Call them right away and ask them for the names of the characters. If they find more than 5, they can join the Super Mario Fan Club!

Small cheat sheet for parents (just in case):Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Princess Peach, Yoshi, Toad, Wario, Princess Daisy, Waluigi, Harmony, Goomba, Koopa, Boo

So, did they blow you away? If so, you are already overwhelmed! And if not, it may be that YOU play the console too much 😉

A puzzle from 10 years old

Give a puzzle for children aged 10 and over to a 6 year old who is a fan of Mario, is it a good idea?

Verdict:yes! Why ? Because children need a challenge, they need to practice doing things a little more complicated than what they usually realize. And because the difficulty means that the parents must lend a hand so that the child can complete the puzzle. It therefore becomes a calm, relaxing and challenging family activity.

Mission accomplished!

With a little time, by guiding step by step and thanks to the life-size poster which serves as a guide for the puzzle, our son managed to put a good number of pieces (the colored characters). To be honest, he got discouraged very quickly on the rest (the uniform blue sky and the green background at the bottom), so we were the ones who finalized it to show him that it is doable and that he does not should not drop along the way an activity that you have started.

All that remains is to put it back in its box and take it out in a few months (or year!).

Where to buy it?

This 500-piece Mario puzzle can be found on Amazon or Cdiscount for example.

Not sure you can find it easily in regular game stores.
